Next Prius to offer 113 mpg

According to Autoexpress UK the next generation of Prius will offer 113 mpg (Note: 113 mpg in the U.K. is equal to 94 mpg in North America). So how does the new Prius manage to achieve a nearly impossible 94 miles to a gallon. The electrical systems have been redesigned and it runs solely on the electric motor in slow traffic but switches to switches to engine and motor drive when higher speeds are needed. The pick up time from 0 to 62mph will also be improved bringing to under 10 seconds. However much of the credit goes to the use of Lithium Ion batteries instead of traditional Nickel hybrid units. The lithium-ion batteries are smaller, lighter, and have greater electrical output.
