New Business Cards : Opinions Wanted

Posted in Uncategorized by Joe Colburn on the January 28th, 2008

As I mentioned in my previous post, I’ll be heading out to Affiliate Summit West next month, and I realized that I have NO business cards. How can I mingle with the blogging elite and not carry business cards to hand out? Clearly, this needs a remedy, so I just whipped up this design and I’d like your thoughts before it goes to the printer:

Update: Another option for the back (from suggestions)

Am I missing anything? Should I change anything? The front will be glossy, and full color both sides. The blue lines are where the bleed starts. I’m planning to print them in the next couple days, but I wanted the valued opinion of my readers, first.

noelevz: I've sent it off to the printer and I've opted for the black back.

Great design! simple and elegant! I suggest the black one for the back.

Mike. That might be Vista Print. However, those deals require their logo to be on the card somewhere, you have to use their design, and you don't get the extras like full color both sides, glossy, UV, etc. I'll be at the closed-attendance party ShareASale is throwing in the $20k/night Sky Villa at the Palms and I don't want to hand out cards that suggest I'm not in the right place. Besides, $42 is nothing to be able to get 1,000 beautiful cards in under a week.

Joe, there was this business card site that gives away about 250 free cards, but I can't seem to remember it. Hit me up and I'll see if I could get it for ya.

Love 'em! Very trendy, yet professional. They'll also make for good conversation pieces.

Andy: I opted for the black back and added "www.joetech.com" in green under the white text and moved it all up to be centered top to bottom. I also went with the richer black your printer suggested on their site. I should have 1,000 cards by Monday.

LOL, I bet you didn't expect this much feedback on your business card. It's cool any way you did it. I understand about the back. I like to have mine light too for that very reason.

Natalie: You're trying to make it expensive for me, eh? I would love to do a plastic card with transparency. Maybe I'll do both when I make the big time. =)

I would be cool if you could do some sort of raised logo, but that might be difficult to pull off without going to a professional printing place.

Syed: Good point. I honestly haven't yet decided if I want to push my real last name on my readers. I'm not hiding it, and anyone can find it pretty easily if they care to look, but I've been developing "Joe Tech" as my brand, and I think I want to focus on that. However, it might be (as you point out) more professional to have my full name on the card for completeness.

Jason: I will play with the font size and see if it looks any better. Maybe I should print one out here and try it on for size.

I would make your info on the back larger and maybe use bullets to separate. Bolder font also? The front is perfect!

Blog Starr: Thanks. I hadn't thought of slashes.

Jeff: Thanks. I will post a white background version here today for comparison.

Andy: Thanks for all the info. I like how an all black back sounds, but I want a matte finish with a light color on the back... Sometimes, you need something to write important info on, and when that something becomes my card, that increases the odds that they'll visit the site. I have some serious thinking to do on that in the next couple days. I'll update this post with a second "back" design today.

It looks nice. But I think you should include your full name. It will be more professional that way. It's just my opinion.

Ok, I thought that was 2 options for the front. Since that is the front and the back, I would go with an all black back with your email reversed out in white or your green. That would be one hot card.

I am not to sold on the half and half look for the back.

14pt is a very heavy card stock. C2S means that the stock is coated 2 sides. The UV is a ultra high gloss coating that they put on after the printing is done. I will email you where you can get those at.

Looks great! I think the beauty is in its simplicity. I do think a white background on the back might work a little better.

Love it. I prefer slashes / to commas, but it's fine as is

Angelika:

That's what I'm thinking. I'm going to try them side by side to see what I like more.

I like it.

Bottom half of the back as pure white might look better? I don't know.

Simple Mindz: Thanks. I was thinking about making the bottom half of the back pure white, but I'm not sure yet.

Andy: I have no clue what you're talking about, other than the card stock. If you know a company that can do 500 or more on thick stock full color front AND back, glossy front and matte back in the $50 range, I'm sold. I was looking at VistaPrint because I trust them, but maybe I should price shop a little. Just so you know, the above is not really two designs, but rather 1 card design, front and back.

I think it looks good as is.

Simple Mindz's last blog post..Zenni Optical Rocks for glasses!

Oh, the first one for sure. Make sure you put it on 14pt C2S (or C1S) with a UV flood on the front. That will be one hot card. You can find all kinds of places online what will sell you 1000 cards for $50 or less even.
