Fire Officer Rivieri TODAY!

Posted in Communication, video by Joe Tech on the February 13th, 2008

I know it’s not tech (and I have a tech post coming later), but I am fuming. Watch the video:

I know there’s kids out there (and some adults) who just need a good beating. I know there’s good police officers out there that deserve all the respect we can give them. So many of the good ones have fallen in Phoenix lately. But then you have guys like this tool. His name is Officer Rivieri and if I had my way, three things would happen:

1. He would be fired immediately.
2. He would be charged with assaulting a minor.
3. He would be barred from ever owning a firearm again.

Here’s a guy who’s going on and on about respect, yet he can’t hold his temper long enough to just talk to the kid. If any cop laid a hand on my nephew like this guy did to this kid (not in physical defense), I’d settle it out of court in my own way. Where did this officer get his training? Why are there so many cops out there who feel the need to abuse their authority?

    Wow.

Little power abusive if you ask me o_o I also follow the belief that you don’t deserve respect just because of your badge or job or whatever; you need to earn it.

    I agree.

The cop has been suspended and is the subject of an Internal Affairs investigation.

AARRRRGGHH!! I am just as fuming as you are Joe Tech!! I’m so glad these kids captured this video and posted it on you tube. It’s so funny how the cop asked toward the end of the clip if the camera was on because he didn’t want it online….hahahahaha too bad OFFICER RIVIERI FROM BALTIMORE!!!

Hope you don’t mind but I’d like to blast this guy on my blog too and let the whole world know that OFFICER RIVIERI FROM BALTIMORE is a big jerk. Great find!! Definitely posting a link to you when I post this vid.

Charlie: That’s it, exactly. I’m open to the notion that the cop asked them once before to not skate there, and it’s possible that he even asked nicely. I can imagine a world where the teens were just plain rude. I was no dream to the local police (one of whom was like this guy) when I was a teen. The yelling at the teen is not the big problem I have with this. The problem I have is that this 250lb (I’m guessing here) “officer of the peace” unnecessarily escalated a misunderstanding, disagreement, or possibly just smart-assed teen verbal confrontation to violence. You’re a Peace Officer, DUDE. You’re supposed to be a role model for teens, MAN.

Marketing Dojo: I know he’s suspended (with pay), and I hope they conclude the internal investigation with a firing. And if I were that kid’s mom, I’d have a an order of protection at this point.

Reytos: I’ve no problem with you posting about it and linking back. You’re the second one already. I think more people should find out about this jerk. Plus, the more media attention it gets, the more pressure there will be on IA to put him in the unemployment line.

Wow, I’m glad you posted that. I am happy to hear he has been suspended, but I don’t think it should be with pay. It doesn’t really matter what happened before the video. Nothing the kids were doing required that kind of abuse.

If that was my kid I would have an assault charge against the cop.

Geez. I really feel sorry for that kid. I didn’t him doing anything or for that matter say anything. The cop was really pissed on being called a ‘dude’. Don’t know why he acts so shitty when he is called that.

This is the kind of crap that instantly pisses me off.

This is the kind of abuse of power that makes a lot of people dislike & mistrust cops.

    Ridiculous.

Oh my, you’re absolutely right on all three counts. My first reaction before it barely got started was that this guys is in dire need of anger management! To have someone that volatile carrying a gun is a scary thought.

For the record, we often have an urge to step outside the box (i.e. our blog’s focus) when things happen. I’m actually looking to step out on the happy side and do some silly things because I have a rant brewing that, while on topic for my side of things, is not at all a happy subject.

I would feel I was failing myself and my readers if I don’t talk about a couple of issues making my blood boil. In short, you’re entitled! Besides, if we don’t say anything, nobody will pay attention! Besides, don’t you feel better now that you’ve blown off some steam? :)

Sue: Good call. I think I’ll call later.

Angelika: Yeah… It’s odd. I generally respect and trust police officers, but I found myself looking at one just a little differently and the cop I saw today didn’t wrong me or anyone else as far as I know, but it goes to show the kind of stigma this kind of thing puts on cops. I think I’d be even more pissed if I were another Boston police officer.

Evelyn: I feel much better. Plus, I made sure to post a kinda geeky post this morning, and I have a couple others brewing in my head.

    I came via Angelika’s site.
Wow, I cannot believe this video. I hope something is being done about this guy! Next thing you know he is shooting someone for going to fast on the fwy or failing to stop at a stop sign. I know that police officers are under alot of stress, but this was not a stressful situation, just kids being kids! I just can’t get over this video! I really hope those kids families are suing (if only to get him off the job). This police officer is danger to society! He is obviously stressed out and needs to change career or learn to deal with this anger inside of him!
    DUDE!

SabineM: Good point about the career switch. You’re right. Some jobs (like his) require the ability to compose yourself properly in the face of stress and despite any internal anger. This is something that he was unable to accomplish at least in this instance, and should be an indicator that he either was not cut out for the job, or after 17 years, no longer has the patience for it.

I just watched both videos concerning officer Rivieri and I must say I am appaulled.
Neither of those people were doing anything CLOSE to warranting such an abusive response on his behalf.
This man should TERMINATED immeadiately. He clearly has an anger control problem and is a JOKE.
Fidel Castro resigned yesterday. I think his open position would be an ideal forum for this man to exert such harsh dictatorship and anger management problems than Baltimore Harbor.

Rivieri makes a habit of this kind of thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32UrXiSVBN8

I agree with the 1, 2, 3 you say should happen, PLUS Rivieri needs tagging or some other means to ensure he stays away from kids & other vulnerable people.

Officer Rivieri used to work for the Danville Police Dept.
