Posted in Computers, Just Cool, web by Joe Tech on the February 20th, 2009

I found that the other day, there was a HUGE spike in people searching Live.com for geeky tattoo photos, leading to a lot of great new traffic for me. If you’re one of those people, I welcome you and I’d love to hear what caused the sudden surge in interest on the topic. All I’ve found in Google Trends is a ton of people looking for pictures of Rihanna beaten up, some of which reference tattoo photos. Anyway, on with this week’s book marks.

Man up, Klutz – The controversy of the week is how toy maker, Klutz, is publishing a book all about the famed BristleBots and although all signs indicate that Evil Mad Scientist Labs created it and coined the name, Klutz is claiming “original work” on it. Update: It looks like Klutz finally caved under the weight of the internet and will give credit to EMSL.

Invisible watermarking – If you have a blog or site with any notable amount of traffic, at some point, someone will steal your images and use them as their own without crediting your site. Check out this cool way to watermark images ONLY when they’re linked from external locations.

Shapeways – I LOVE programming, but I’ve been dabbling more in tangible item projects, so I was thrilled to see a company that will develop three-dimensional objects based on 3D data models you provide without charging an arm and a leg. I have no idea what I’ll need this for or when, but when that time comes, this will be my solution.

PublisherChallenge.com – To be honest, I haven’t had a chance to create an account and start competing, but Tyler Cruz has been giving us peeks and hints for a while and finally launched the site and it looks pretty good.

FlexScan 3D – I don’t review a lot of software, but I’d love to get my hands on this for a full review. It’s a software solution that uses affordable off-the-shelf hardware to produce real three-dimensional scans.

Orbitwheels – I’ve never even tried inline skating, but I want these mono-wheel skates. I love to see innovative new twists like this.

Doctor Tesla – Tesla coils performing the Doctor Who sound track? That is super geek-a-licious!

Siftables – The possibilities these smart blocks offer are virtually endless. I love every bit of this idea and I want them.

Glad I’m not the only one who noticed the spike. I’m getting searches from Google, MSN and Live.com for geeky tattoos, geek girl/woman tattoos, with yesterday being the largest, with over 400, yes that’s right, over 400 search phrases containing those terms. I had my biggest traffic day in well over a year with 2304 unique hits. I say- keep looking for geeky tattoos, even though mine aren’t quite geeky :D

Beth : Now I’m glad I’m not the only one, either. I wonder why the sudden interest. Someone must have shown up on American Idol or Lost or something with some kind of geeky tattoo.
