After writing the article about IZEA Rank launching, I decided to play with the API key they gave me and see if I could make an IZEA Rank badge maker and guess what. I created it.
That’s my rank. It shows as a zero right now, because I’m so new in their system, but here’s the best part. It updates automatically. Of course, I don’t want to lose my API key, so I am caching the API call result for 1 day. It only updates once per day anyway, I think.
Go get your own IZEA Rank badge code. Just remember to remove “yourdomain-com” and replace that with your actual domain name.
If you like it, please use it on your site. If you would like to see different badge sizes, let me know and I’ll make them.

Saphyrym: Good to hear it. I emailed IZEA yesterday to make sure they were OK with how I chose to use their API and they’re happy with it, so I will move forward this week with more button sizes/configurations.
I’m also stealing your “recent Entrecards” idea , but I’ll turn it into a nice widget, I think.

Great coding my friend. I am using the widget on many of my blogs. It was working great on http://www.benspark.com (I have a real rank of 849) and then it stopped working great and showed 849849 as my real rank, putting my real rank twice next to itself. Odd. Just through you should know and I also added the widget to http://www.wiredkayaker.com, benspark.blogspot.com and flat-water.blogspot.com. Great widget, thanks so much, and I kept your link of course.

Ben: Thanks for keeping the link in. I deleted the cache for the one. It does that to mine, too. It checks for the cache file and writes it if it’s not found, so I think what happens is that the hour goes by since it was cached and then it tries to rewrite without removing the old file. I’ll fix that now.

Now they say 0. It looks like that is something wrong on the IZEA end though as I have their real rank display kit on 2 of my other blogs. And they are just blank now.

I’m using your badge on my blog now, link and all. I couldn’t get the one IZEA offers to display no matter what I tried, so the credit is due to you for coming up with one that does display!
I keep getting a 404 page when I try to click through to the IZEA Ranks website from my blog though. Is this something that works itself out within 24 hours?

Paul: I see that you’ve fixed the link. I emailed IZEA about that, but they didn’t have a badge out until after I did, so it might take them a little time to fix that. Your image is still showing zero because your image code points to http://www.joetech.com/izearank/rankimg.php?site=yourdomain-com when it should really point to http://www.joetech.com/izearank/rankimg.php?site=paulezimmerman-com
I’ve noticed this with a few others, though, so I’ve changed the code to fix this for you.
Thanks for the credit. I’m probably going to change the code so that I have more control over it. That way, if IZEA something that breaks the badge, I can fix it right away. I’ll contact everyone individually if that’s the case.

Ah crap, I see what I missed now. I realize the error when I viewed my own profile on IZEA Ranks (I used .com instead of -com), but I didn’t realize I had to change that in two places in the code on my blog. Oh well. Thanks for the fix!

Update-
Joe if you are reading any of these comments, I have figured out why some of us are not updating and are receiving 404 Error pages from Izea. Instead of using, as an example my url, “afrogtokiss.net”, Izea is adding a dash instead of the period. So if you are using Joe’s badge, change your url to look like this, “yourdomain-com”

I mentioned that to IZEA and I updated my code to fix the rank, but I can’t do much about the linking as each webmaster will need to correct their link. Hopefully they’ll get it figured out. It’s like 1 line of code.

The ranks on your widget are doing the double up thing again. And in the case of mine it had a rank from a few weeks ago. I removed the code but am going to add it back in. IS there any reason why the doubling still happens?

I believe the reason that happens is that two people hit your site at the same time when your score isn’t cached and the rank tries to write twice at the same time. The rank caches for only an hour, so after an hour, it should clear itself up. If not, let me know.

Hi Joe,
I added your badge with hopes that my rank would show with yours since it does not show using the badge from Izea but it doesn’t either. Yours gives me a 0 and thiers gives me N/A I ahve all up to date codes in place for the itk and still nada. any suggestions?
