If you don’t know what a domainer is, then chances are that you are not one. I’m a part-time domainer, buying domains pretty rarely, these days, but I still like to watch the industry and learn new tricks. This is where Dot Sauce Magazine comes in. It’s a blog about buying and selling in the domain name market.

When you first visit the site, you are presented with the blog, but when you browse around a bit, you soon find that it’s much more than that, including web resources, expired domain lists, forums, and premium membership.
About Dot Sauce Magazine
DotSauce was launched in April 2007 as a domain name industry magazine. We aim to capture your attention with bold, interesting, informative and useful articles that will keep you coming back for more.
The site is run by Mark Fulton, a self-proclaimed web developer, entrepreneur, writer, deep thinker and a dreamer who clearly knows what he’s doing, racking up over 400 subscribers in about 8 months, and he’s not stopping. Looking to break the 500 mark, he’s launched a contest to get more readers. The contest features too many prizes to list, so you’ll just have to go look.
A Blog for Domainers
While there’s been a few forums and sites dedicated to making money on domain names, I hadn’t really seen a domain name blog like this until now. While the focus is mostly on buying and selling domains, the blog is sprinkled with helpful webmaster articles as well, like 5 Essential Firefox Addons Every Web Developer Needs and articles that are more humorous than useful like 8 Ways to Get Rich with Domain Names in 2008. The blog is a great read, and it’s no wonder he has so many subscribers so quickly.
Expired Domains
Some say all the good domains (those you can resell for a good profit) are gone, and this is largely true. You can still come across the lucky find or creative wording domain someone hasn’t grabbed, but sometimes it’s easier to look for a good domain someone else has let expire and purchase it. If you want to try this method, expired domain lists are imperative to your goal. Mark provides a pathway to some great free lists to get you started. I’ve personally written and sold copies of a script to find such domains. People paid $100/copy for my script, so believe me when I say that there is value in these lists.
Forums and Web Resources
Although these are two different areas of his site, I lumped them together because they share a common theme. They’re both very handy for learning more, adding to your bag of tricks, or just getting started as a new web entrepreneur. The forums feature discussion areas like Domain News, Expired & Available Domains, Web Development, Domain Parking, and Web Design. There’s also a Premium area of the forums for those who pay the small $10 fee to access it. I haven’t been in there, so I couldn’t tell you if it’s worth it. I will say that even though the premium forums seem a little lacking for quantity of posts, I would probably buy if Mark would guarantee some kind of price lock for early adopters. I can see the Premium membership being worth a lot more than $10 per month in the near future and it would be worth dropping the cash now to guarantee that price even when it goes up for everyone else. Of course, I’m just speculating and rambling now, so I’ll move on.
The Resources section contains categories full of tools, articles, and links. To be honest, I half expected this area to be filler, despite the quality of the rest of the site. Sorry for that, Mark. Starting with the SEO Tools section, I worked through the categories, finding that most had a lot of great tools and information. There are a few places that are wanting, but those spaces are used to invite you to guest post and help add to the content, which I might inquire about. One thing I found with the tools is that the Backlink SEO Tool appears to be broken (zero backlinks for joetech.com, linkbaitme.com or dotsauce.com? impossible), but the other tools are great and I’ve bookmarked a few.
In general Dot Sauce Magazine is a great resource for anyone looking to make money in the domain industry and should be on your short list of sites to spend quality time with before buying domains for the first time. Just be sure to play by the rules when buying domains, don’t buy too many until you feel confident that you know the game, and just like any endeavor, re-invest to grow.
