Having been a Nine Inch Nails fan for 17 years now, and being a web developer interested in web marketing, the campaign for their new album, Year Zero could not escape my attention. It seems Trent has hired a web marketing company to launch a series of cryptic and, at times, interactive sites to promote the new album. The first site was apparently found as a result of an IP address found on the back of one of the new tour shirts.
Here’s what they have so far:
http://anotherversionofthetruth.com/ - Pictured above… Highlight the whole thing to see what’s hidden. Then click on “ANOTHER VERSION OF THE TRUTH” to get to the “forums”. In the “forums”, you can check out 7 threads:
The first is all content.
The second has a link to bethehammer.net.
The third links to this audio file (listen to the whole thing).
The fourth thread links to this audio file… “Sometimes the cost of liberty is ninety-two dollars a box.” “Who’s writing this stuff?”, I’m wondering.
Yet more audio is found on the fifth thread.
That’s all the audio, but be sure to view the source of the pages for some hidden extras.
http://bethehammer.net/ - Once again, 7 links. I haven’t read through all the pages, but there seem to be no extra links on any of them.. Just the same stuff tucked in the source.
http://iamtryingtobelieve.com/ - Here’s a fun site about a drug. I haven’t read it all yet, but the only linking on any of the pages here seems to be to an email address : water@iamtryingtobelieve.com
http://105thairbornecrusaders.com/ - This one is “the unofficial sanctioned
webpage dedicated to members of the 105th”. No linking on any sub pages.
More I’ll have to get to when time allows:
http://churchofplano.com/ - The Church of Plano
http://deadcop-opal.com/ - (no site yet)
http://www.consolidatedmailsystems.com/nooneimportant/
http://www.consolidatedmailsystems.com/
There are also some hidden links on http://yearzero.nin.com/. Can you find them?
More info is here: http://www.echoingthesound.org
Additional sites are popping up and this looks like it’ll be a very interesting way to get people involved and keep them interested.
I know I’ll be watching.
