NTT Japan transfers data at 10 Tbps

Posted in Communication, Computers, Just Cool by Joe on the May 11th, 2006

NTT Japan has been testing some new routing technology to bring information to its customers faster. The optical trunk lines that will connect cities can handle an astonishing amount of data – 10 freaking terabits per second. How fast is that? It can move 270 complete movies, give or take, in one second. Ridiculous. It will be ready by 2011, which is also when the Japanese are scheduled to have optical fiber strung to every home in the country. Pretty cool.
